Canon Powershot S51s – Is it the Perfect Camera For You?

Canon Powershot S51s – Is it the Perfect Camera For You?
By Jimmy Lanceman

If you’re searching for the perfect Digital Camera for yourself, then the Canon Powershot s51s is going to make you very happy. If you’re tired of obsolete Film cameras, or you’re looking to upgrade your current digital camera the Canon Powershot s51s will fulfill your needs!

As with all digital cameras you can take 100’s of pictures before you have to download and you can even print out your pictures when ever you want. But trying to choose from the hundred’s of digital cameras is not going to be easy. If you’re not completely persuaded that this camera will meet your needs then read on!

A good digital camera should have excellent picture resolution [mega pixels] that’s the color dots that form the picture. If you want your pictures to be comparable to 35 mm pictures you need to pick a camera with 6 mega pixels or more. You would need to look through a magnifying glass to see the difference.

Another good feature to look for is optical zoom that is the lens magnification is actually physical moved. The other type of zoom is digital this is when the zoom is achieved by electronically increasing the size of every pixel. 35 mm cameras only use a optical zoom while digital cameras can do both.

I like a digital camera to have a big color LCD screen, preferably on that is moveable giving the user a clear view of the picture, before deciding if you want to keep it or delete it and take another. Another neat feature is you can scroll through the pictures in a slide show fashion.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 Digital Camera

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 Digital Camera
By Troy Richards

Specifications: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 is an alternative to the very popular ZS3. Although they look very similar, there are some significant differences. The ZS1 is a sort of a ‘lower end’ mode. It does not have HD movie recording mode like the ZS3. Instead, it has a VGA video recording mode, which is more than sufficient for many of us. This model comes with a 10.1MP image sensor and a 12x optical zoom. It also comes with a wide-angle lens (4.1 – 49.2mm)

Design: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 is a compact point-and-shoot camera, measuring at 4.1 x 1.3 x 2.4 inches. It weighs just 7.3 oz. This model comes in two colors, black and silver, both looking equally sleek. It has a very professional-looking design (unlike the toy-like designs of many other brands). The right side of the camera bulges a little to provide a comfortable grip and on the flipside, you will find the spacious 2.7-inch LCD display.

Features & Performance: The menu and navigation of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 user interface is very simple and easy to use. It has a decent battery life, lasting up to 320 shots on a single charge. One of my favorite features is that while you are movie mode, you can still use the camera’s 12x optical zoom. Many competing models can zoom when shooting videos. My only complain about it is its rather ’soft’ mode dial. It turns easily so you can often accidentally turn it while holding the camera. Other than that, and the absence of the HD movie mode, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 seems to be almost flawless. It currently costs around $250 each, making it an excellent buy.

HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder Review – Don’t Buy a Sony HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder Until You Read This!
By Chris John

Among Sony’s products is the HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder, the first known 1080i high-definition camcorder. This camcorder is known to allow its operator to be able to record and play high definition video and produce professional quality videos. This camcorder is absolutely the top featured and favored camcorder on the market!

So apart from the fact that this is a high definition camcorder, what else makes this particular model a great item in the market? The HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder weighs a mere 4.4 lbs. and has a 7.1 x 5.9 x 14.4 inch dimension. Among its other features are the 12x optical zoom capacity, can shoot regular photo or normal video, it has a stereo microphone to help create a more life like audio input, a steady shot stabilization system and it also comes with a 3.5 inch LCD swivel video finder and has a Super HAD 3CCD Optical Sensor Technology while the resolutions can come up to 1440 x 1080.

This HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder provides the ability to shoot a film like feel of 30 frames per second; although there is also the option to shoot 24 frames per second. It is featured with the real-time HD Codec Engine which provides the capability to have a professional MPEG2 level video compression. This feature is also a measure of reduced energy consumption. One can also be able to convert or record the standard analog NTSC video source to digital video by means of using the analog inputs. It can also be passed through to a real time to a PC through the i.Link interface to make it easier to edit the analog footage. There are also options to be able to make presets for manual adjustment and scene settings such as that of color, sharpness as well as white balance, etc. And these can be preset to be able to use it in default consistently particularly if the shooting conditions remain the same. There is also an iris dial in this HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder model which enables one to adjust and regulate the light which comes in. The steady shot optical stabilization system is one which is able to regulate shakes and vibrations which can alter the quality of the footage; this in effect produces much smoother effects. There are also three external assignable buttons which can be set according to preference to produce easier and more efficient usage when it comes to the options which are most constantly used. It also has the capability to be able to efficiently transfer or switch from high definition videos to that of the standard definition videos. Apart from HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder having an optical and digital zoom, it is also featured with manual zoom as well as that of manual focus rings which enables one to be able to manually focus and gradually increase or decrease the overall focus of the footage and framing. The expanded focus or the standard digital zoom is set up to 4x the original size temporarily in the camcorder’s LCD screen. It can then be used to push to 12x zooming capacity for the optical zoom control by means of the usage of the Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T lens technology and this in fact can be able to provide great quality images regardless of the size it has been set to by means of zooming in or out.

Basically, this HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder is loaded with a lot of different features which can be used both professionally and for amateur footages. The resolution it provides is among Sony’s pride as well as the stability and durability and overall quality this product can produce. When purchased, the Sony HDR camcorder, an NP F570 Info Lithium rechargeable battery, an AC L15 power adapter and or in camera charger, a wireless remote control RMT 831 remote commander, lens hood, lens cap, AA batteries, mutli A/V cable, cleaning cassette, component video cable, large eye cup, shoulder strap and a shoe adapter is among the items one can find inside this product’s packaging.

And If you are looking for more info and details on this unit then check out another HDR FX1 HDV Camcorder review!

How to Buy the Right Digital Camera For You

How to Buy the Right Digital Camera For You
By Wilson McLaren

There are many digital cameras on the market today, and when it comes time to buy a new one, all the options can seem somewhat overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you figure out what features are important for your needs so you can sift through all the models more easily and end up with the right digital camera for you.

What Do You Need from Your Camera?

First and foremost, you need to consider what you want to do with your camera. To help you figure this out, ask yourself these following questions:

* Are you hoping to learn the art of photography, or do you just want a digital camera to take pictures of family and friends?

* Do you find yourself taking pictures outside a lot (maybe you’re a nature lover) or is it more a balance of indoor outdoor photography?

* What is your experience level as a photographer; are you a total newbie, have you been taking pictures for years, or do you fall somewhere in between?

* Do you want a digital camera that will fit in your pocket, or, is a bigger camera OK with you?

And probably the most important question:

* What is your budget?

Your answer to each of these questions will help you to determine the features and equipment you’ll need (or want) and those that you can do without, and/or save some money by leaving out of the package. And ultimately, your budget constraints will probably really help you make your final decision.

The Type of Batteries the Camera Takes is Important

When sifting through all the digital camera options out there, batteries are an important, but not often thought of feature. Most cameras can take some form of rechargeable batteries, and they’re the most environmentally and budget friendly option. But, what type of rechargeable battery would be best for you?

Some digital cameras come with rechargeable Lithium Ion or NIMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries that are unique to that specific camera. This is an excellent option as these batteries last a long time and are quickly recharged with the compatible charger. However, these batteries can’t be used in other devices and they can be expensive if you end up having to replace them.

Many of the digital cameras on the market today take standard AA batteries, which you can also buy rechargeable models of. These batteries don’t last nearly as long between charges but you can have several on hand to help make sure you always have backups. If the camera you choose does take AA batteries, go with NIMH over alkaline as the NIMH last longer between charges.

Do You Already Have Compatible Gear?

It may help you choose one digital camera over another if you already have some gear that’s compatible with one of the models you’re looking at. Having things like memory cards, flashes, lenses, batteries, etc that are compatible with the digital camera you buy can end up saving you a lot of money in the end and could possibly enable you to get some other features that might otherwise be cost prohibitive.

Make Sure You Know What Accessories Are Included With Your Purchase

If you don’t have any compatible gear, or even if you do, it’s important that you clearly understand what each manufacturer and even each vendor offers with the purchase of each digital camera you’re considering.

For example, does the digital camera you’re looking at come with a memory card already, or will that be an additional expense. How about a carrying case? One camera may stand out over the others because it has the features and the accessories you need instead of having to spend extra money to get these things in addition to the camera itself.

Consider the Camera’s Zoom

When looking at digital camera specifications, you might see that the camera has both “Digital Zoom” and “Optical Zoom”. In most situations, you’ll want to focus on the optical zoom capabilities of the camera. Digital zoom only enlarges the pixels in your shot, which does make your subject look bigger, but doesn’t do your picture any favors when you go to print it. Optical Zoom on the other hand truly “zooms in” on your entire picture and doesn’t affect the quality of your shot at all.

Most digital cameras have at least a 3x zoom lens, which makes your subject 3 times as big. However, there are some newer digital cameras just coming onto the market that have “super zooms”. These are zoom lenses that offer up to 12x optical zoom. In some situations you might want to go with the 12x zoom, but for most, the standard optical zoom will be sufficient.

Use Reviews to Help With Your Research

Now that you know more about what you need, what you want, and the features you should look for, you’ll probably have found a few favorite models of digital cameras that you like. Before you go ahead and make any purchases though, make sure to take advantage of all the reviews that are online these days.

While at times reviews can make a decision more difficult, they are usually very helpful in letting you know how the digital camera performed in real life situations as opposed to the specs listed by the manufacturer.

Hopefully by this point, you’ve got it narrowed down to one or two of your favorites. Now take the time to look around for the best deal you can find and make your selection. Then, once your new digital camera arrives, you’ll be pleased with your purchase and can go out and just enjoy taking pictures!

If you’re looking for a new digital camera or any other type of electronics, as well as books, luggage, jewelry, games, and a whole host of other things, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of these money saving Buy.com coupons.

Or, if you’re shopping elsewhere online, before you checkout, make sure to visit DiscountSpies.com where you’ll find coupon codes and promotional offers for a wide variety of online merchants that will save your hard earned money, and help you get some of the best deals around.

Canon PowerShot SX10IS Digital Camera (10MP, 20x Optical Zoom)

Canon PowerShot SX10IS Digital Camera (10MP, 20x Optical Zoom)
By Troy Richards

The Camera’s ergonomic design remains similar to its predecessor’s, however the specs-sheet contains significant improvements. The effective 10-megapixel resolution lens, a step up of 8MP from its predecessor, enables some splendid shots to be taken. It also has a powerful 20X Zoom (a vast upgrade on the 12X Zoom of the previous model), good battery life, excellent LCD (230,000 pixels) performance (though size is half an inch smaller than many competing models), and ease of use make it a very sound choice for amateurs and aspiring professionals alike.

Much effort has been put in to making the Canon PowerShot SX10IS 10MP digital camera as user friendly as possible, including a dedicated movie button and mode dial that rotates the full 360 degrees, with both additions pleasing and entirely welcomed.

Another handy feature is the ability to zoom while filming a 30fps VGA resolution video. The new-age DIGIC processor provides added quality to the images. Although bulky, the camera’s performance is amazing, and the larger grip is more a pro than a con.

The Canon PowerShot SX10IS 10MP digital camera is pretty impressive in speed as it can take pictures and focus at higher speeds compared to many other models. Also, power efficiency is also considerable with the camera running on 4 AA batteries and taking a hefty amount of photographs before running out. All in all, the Canon PowerShot SX10IS 10MP digital camera combines fine photo quality with ergonomic design, and although lacking HD movie-capture capability it is still an excellent buy.

Canon Power Shot Digital Camera – What’s the Best Canon Power Shot Camera?

Canon Power Shot Digital Camera – What’s the Best Canon Power Shot Camera?
By Jimmy Lanceman

If you ask me what the best camera is I would have to say the Canon Power Shot A70 Digital Camera is at the top of the list. I’ve owned mine for over 5 years and without a problem, it definitely is a great little camera with 3.2 Mega pixels and a 3X optical zoom. At the time I bought it, it was the highest rated camera at the time for $400 bucks.

I’ve been searching for a new camera to upgrade the A70 [ It still works fine will keep it for a spare] After months of research and reading reviews there’s 2 camera’s that can live up to my expectations. The first is the Canon Power Shot s51s Digital Camera and the second is the a620. Both are highly rated and very user friendly.

The a620 is compact and lightweight with a new sleeker design offering 7.1 mega pixels…4X optical zoom and the exclusive Digic II processor and a 2-inch LCD screen.

The s51s is also very compact and lightweight and can easily fit in your pocket. Offers 8 mega pixels 12X optical zoom [this is a great feature...you can really zoom up close] and is equipped with the Digic III image processor with a 2.5- inch variable angle LCD screen.

Both of these Canon Power Shot Digital Cameras are in the $350 to $450 range and offer outstanding value. As you might have guessed I’m going to choose the s51s over the a620 because you get nearly 1 mega pixel more and a 2.5-inch LCD. But the main reason was the 12X optical zoom.

I’ve done a review of the s51s and Purchasing a Good Digital Camera doesn’t have to be hard…The Canon s51s is an excellent choice in an 8 mega pixel camera. It offers unsurpassed quality, features and it will meet or exceed your expectations in a Digital Camera. Read part 2…My review Canon s51s The Hottest Digital Camera…Here’s Why.

One of the best ways to capture your memories forever is through photographs and there is no better way to do it than with a Sony digital camera. Sony is one of the pioneers of excellent digital camera technology. It has provided consumers with an excellent line of digital cameras that is equipped with the best optical and imaging technology that can capture your most prized memories with more detail, color and precision imaginable.

Every Sony digicam has an exclusive Sony technology that is able to boost your photo capturing experience. It also has its own Cybershot line that offers a wide range of premium digital cameras. This line of Sony digital cameras allow high digital processing that reduces picture noise and delivers smoother and more detailed images. Included in this line is the H series.

The DSC- H1

The Cybershot DSC H1 offers a 12x zoom which is wonderful for close-up shots. It is generally considered as a well-thought-out design with a broad feature set and fast performance that can work well in almost all shooting situations. The H1 is slightly heavier and larger which adds to the digital camera’s solid and substantial feel.

The DSC-H2

The DSC H2 comes in silver with a 6 megapixel imager and a two inch LCD. This model incorporates Sony’s SupersteadyShot optical image stabilization that is very helpful in reducing image blur caused by hand movement. It also offers a high-light sensitivity setting of up to ISO 1000 which is very ideal for capturing moving objects and people with less blur and graininess. The shutter lag at both wide angle and telephoto zoom settings is very good in addition to the prefocus time (half-pressing and holding down the Sony DSC-H2 shutter button before exposure) which is very fast.

The DSC-H3

This Sony H3 model is a super compact 8 megapixel camera that has a powerful 10x optical zoom lens that is perfect for close-up shots. It is also ideal for capturing movement as you will be able to take a snapshot of every touchdown as it also includes Sony’s advanced sports shooting mode which combines high shutter speed shooting and continuous auto-focusing. This aspect helps reduce shutter lag by quickly focusing on fast moving objects.

The DSC-H5

The DSC H5 has a 7.2 megapixel CCD imager and a three inch LCD screen. Its focal length ranges of 36 to 432 millimeters and has a 12x optical zoom lenses. It is capable of capturing distant shots and easy to use like a point-and-shoot camera. Additionally, the Sony anti-blur system provides the noise reduction technology that helps minimize picture noise which makes it easier to shoot at a faster shutter speed with the use of the Sony DSC-H5 shutter button. This is very advantageous especially if you are taking a shot in low-light conditions.

Sony is definitely one of the widely known brands that produce high quality digital cameras with exceptional features and designs. While not all cameras belonging in this brand can serve your purpose, you can still be certain that a Sony digital camera can undoubtedly be a name that you can trust. If you do decide to purchase a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H series camera, make sure you do some research on Google first regarding the shutter button issue with the DSC-H2 and DSC-H5 cameras first!

The Digital Camcorder by Numbers – Pixels, Megapixels and Zoom

The Digital Camcorder by Numbers – Pixels, Megapixels and Zoom
By Kim Chambers

The dizzying world of the digital camcorder is a confusing and difficult place to navigate for an inexperienced novice. Marketers love to baffle and entice buyers with impressive sounding numbers which encourage a purchase. Getting past the advertising bumph and cutting to the core of what you really need from a digital camcorder is the key to getting a good deal. Being able to tell the difference in pixels and zoom will set you apart from the crowd.

Put very simply, a digital picture is made up of millions of tiny dots called pixels. Pixels are marketed in different ways, which can be confusing, but basically the higher the number, the better the image quality. A digital camera these days is marketed in terms of ‘megapixels’. Megapixels sound impressive because of the stupendous numbers involved which is an excellent marketing tool. In reality, megapixels are calculated by multiplying the length by the width of a given pixel resolution, so an image which is 1600 x 1200 pixels – for example – is 1,920,000 pixels or 1.9 megapixels.

This is not to be confused with a digital camcorder, which also uses pixels but is marketed by the number of horizontal lines of pixels, not the number of pixels themselves. Digital camcorders, like televisions, might have 720 horizontal lines for a high definition (HD) camera or 1,080 horizontal lines for a full HD camera. In this case the more lines, the sharper the image.

Marketers are also quick to confound the unwary with impressive sounding numbers when it comes to zooming. There are two types of zoom which govern how close you get to an object when filming or taking a picture. Optical zoom moves the lens physically closer or further away from the object, which will zoom in on a particular area. Digital zoom on the other hand takes the pixels of an image and blows them up; magnifying them in order to make you appear closer.

The short and fast rule is that optical zoom is good, digital zoom is bad. It’s not really as simple as that – digital zoom can be useful, but digital zoom is much better manipulated later in an editing suite on your computer than on your digital camcorder. The problem with digital zoom is that by enlarging the pixels, the quality of the image is lost and the picture will blur or look fuzzy. Even on HD camcorders, digital zoom can look blurred and blocky.

Don’t be fooled with huge numbers on the side of a box for a digital camcorder. Much like megapixels, the marketing teams will often multiply the optical zoom by the digital zoom in order to create an impressive zoom number. When buying a digital camcorder, look for the highest optical zoom you can and ignore digital zoom. Anything over 12x optical zoom is reasonable, but 30x optical zoom is exceptional and will give crystal-clear images when closing in on your subject matter.

Kim has 2 years experience writing articles about Camcorders. She also enjoys writing on various other subjects.
